Two friends sentenced to nine years in prison and caning for robbing an elderly couple in their 70s using a machete during a home invasion in Bau.
KUCHING: Two men were sentenced to nine years in prison and three strokes of the cane for robbing an elderly couple with a machete.
Akmal Najmuddin Jeperidin, 32, and Horyezad Hosen, 24, pleaded guilty to the charges before Sessions Court Judge Noorhisham Mohd Jaafar.
The robbery occurred at the victims’ house in Pekan Taiton, Bau at 2 pm on August 9.
Four masked men, one armed with a machete, tied up the elderly couple, their son, and granddaughter using adhesive tape.
The victim was ordered to open his safe but refused, leading to one robber kicking his waist and striking his left palm with the machete.
The robbers eventually found the key and opened the safe, stealing approximately RM100,000 in cash.
They also took two gold necklaces, rings, identity documents, and a mobile phone during the incident.
The court ordered the prison sentences to begin from their respective arrest dates of November 7 and November 12.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Adriana Maisarah Mohd Farid handled the prosecution while both accused were unrepresented.
