National men’s pairs dominate Australian Open first round

Three national men’s doubles pairs advance to the second round of the 2025 Australian Open with commanding victories over Taiwanese opponents in Sydney.

THREE Malaysian men’s doubles pairs secured their spots in the second round of the 2025 Australian Open with convincing victories at Sydney Olympic Park.

Second seeds Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani needed just 24 minutes to defeat Taiwan’s Zhi Wei He and Huang Jui Hsuan 21-10, 21-10.

They will next face either Indonesian-Australian pair Rizky Hidayat and Frengky Wijaya Putra or Taiwanese duo Liu Kuang Heng and Yang Po Han.

Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun overcame Taiwanese opponents Chiang Chien-Wei and Wu Hsuan-Yi 23-21, 21-16.

The pair will meet Danish combination Christian Faust Kjaer and Rasmus Kjaer in their second-round encounter.

Choong Hon Jian and Muhammad Haikal Nazri caused an upset by defeating seventh-seeded Taiwanese pair Lee Jhe Huei and Yang Po Hsuan 21-10, 21-13.

Two other Malaysian pairs exited the tournament in the opening round.

Lau Yi Sheng and Lim Tze Jian fell to Indonesian duo Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri 15-21, 10-21.

Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub and Tan Wee Kiong suffered a narrow 19-21, 21-13, 20-22 defeat to Danish pair Christian Faust and Rasmus Kjaer. – Bernama
