Tabung Haji gives over RM3 million in zakat to Melaka council

Tabung Haji presents RM3.16 million in zakat for 2025 to MAIM, benefiting thousands of asnaf in Melaka.

MELAKA: The Pilgrims Fund Board (Tabung Haji) has presented RM3,155,678.55 in zakat for the 2025 financial year to the Melaka Islamic Religious Council (MAIM), said Tabung Haji Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mustakim Mohamad.

He said the zakat contribution was handed over to Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Ali Rustam at Dewan Seri Utama, Office of the Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri in Ayer Keroh here.

“The zakat distributed by Tabung Haji is not merely a responsibility but a catalyst for change in improving the quality of life of asnaf and those in need in Melaka.

“The annual distribution of zakat throughout the country, including in Melaka, is a trust that we carry out with full responsibility,” he said in a statement here today.

He said through the zakat payment, Tabung Haji hoped that more asnaf and those in need will benefit from various welfare, education and healthcare programmes implemented by the state religious authorities.

Mustakim said Tabung Haji had also allocated RM1.065 million in 2025 for the implementation of various zakat wakalah programmes in Melaka.

He said these include the Iqra’ Programme for Public Universities at the Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka, Afiat Programme which provides 50 mechanical beds at several hospitals, MADANI Adopted School Iqra’ Programme, Ehsan Raya Programme and the TH Cares initiative that benefitted 2,770 asnaf in the state.

“The distribution of TH zakat wakalah through specially designed programmes is in line with Maqasid Shariah to ensure zakat is utilised strategically and sustainably, and distributed directly to asnaf,” he said.

He said more than 726,000 asnaf nationwide received assistance through the zakat wakalah programme last year, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to more than 2.9 million over the past decade.

As of May 31, he said Tabung Haji had 397,624 depositors in Melaka with total savings amounting to RM3.12 billion.

“TH will continue to play its role as a caring and responsible Islamic financial institution in strengthening the wellbeing of the ummah through effective zakat distribution and community development programmes that provide lasting benefits to the people,” he added.
