Police have detained four more individuals in Pahang to assist investigations into the sale of fraudulent medical leave certificates.
PEKAN: Police have detained four more individuals to assist in investigations into the sale and purchase of medical leave (MC) certificates suspected to be invalid.
Pahang Police Chief Yahaya Othman said those arrested were in their 40s and were detained around this district last Wednesday.
“Prior to this, five individuals were arrested and remanded by the Pekan Magistrate’s Court. Following further investigations, four more were detained and are believed to be buyers,” he said.
He told reporters this after the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) handover ceremony between Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation and the Royal Malaysia Police Pahang contingent here today.
He said the five individuals, including a female nurse, had been released on police bail after their three- to four-day remand period, which began last Monday, ended today.
On June 15, the media reported that five individuals, including a nurse, were remanded for between three and four days beginning that day to assist investigations into the sale and purchase of medical leave certificates suspected to be invalid.
Meanwhile, Yahaya said police are in the midst of completing the investigation papers into a fatal accident at Kilometre 43 of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) last Sunday that claimed the lives of four family members.
“We are still awaiting the chemistry report before the investigation papers are referred to the prosecution for further action,” he said.
He said a 40-year-old trailer driver involved in the accident had been arrested and remanded for four days after being tested positive for drugs and had several previous offence records, including traffic summonses and drug-related criminal records.
The driver had been released on police bail after the remand period ended, he added.
