JOHOR BAHRU: Police have opened three investigation papers so far after receiving seven reports related to the 16th Johor State Election.
Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said two investigation papers were opened under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire or explosive substance, and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief.
He said another investigation paper was opened under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, covering alleged seditious conduct and improper use of network facilities.
“Since nomination day on Saturday (June 27) until yesterday, we have received seven Johor state election-related police reports.
“We will intensify security control and monitoring across all constituencies to ensure every (election) process runs smoothly, orderly and safely. So far, no incidents affecting public order have been reported,” he said in a statement today.
Ab Rahaman said the security situation in the Johor polls, so far, is calm and under control, with 3,903 personnel, involving 544 officers, 3,247 rank-and-file personnel and 112 civilian staff, deployed to safeguard the election process.
“We have also intensified monitoring of social media platforms by working closely with the relevant agencies to curb the spread of fake news, unverified information and provocative or seditious content that can disrupt public order,” he said.
He urged all parties to continue observing the law, avoid provocation and refrain from spreading false or unverified information.

Polling is on July 11, with early voting on July 7.
