National hurdler Mohamad Armin Zahryl Abd Latif sets a new national record of 13.63s to reach the 110m hurdles final at the 2026 Under-23 Asian Athletics Championship.

NATIONAL hurdler Mohamad Armin Zahryl Abd Latif smashed the national 110 metre (m) men’s hurdle record when he advanced to the final of the event at the 2026 Under 23 Asian Athletics Championship in Ordos, China today.

Athletics Malaysia said that Mohamad Armin, erased Rayzam Shah Wan Sofian’s record of 13.67 seconds (s) set in 2017 when he clocked a time of 13.63 s in the first heat, finishing second behind China runner China Shiqi Zhao (13.58 s), while Sutthahathai Phrambut of Thailand was third with a time of 13.99 s.

Fellow Malaysian, Elvin Yap Zhi Xuan also qualified for the final with a new personal best time of 13.72s, when he placed third in the second heat, behind winner Zhang Zijun of China (13.61 s) and second-placed Oumar Doudai O Abakar of Qatar (13.68 s).

The final will take place at 6 pm tomorrow.

Meanwhile, national sprinter Muhammad Azeem Fahmi, who won the gold in the men’s 100 m on Thursday, was eliminated from the men’s 200 m final yesterday due to a false start.
