‘Resident Evil’ trailer unleashes new nightmare

Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil follows a medical courier trapped in the Raccoon City outbreak

THE official trailer for the new Resident Evil film has arrived, offering a closer look at Zach Cregger’s new take on Capcom’s survival horror franchise.

Austin Abrams stars as Bryan, a medical courier travelling to Raccoon City General Hospital. What begins as a routine delivery turns into a fight for survival when the city is overrun by infected creatures.

The film tells an original story set during the outbreak depicted in the 1998 video game Resident Evil 2. Familiar characters such as Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield will not lead the film, with Bryan experiencing the disaster from another part of Raccoon City.

Unlike the trained police officers and soldiers often featured in the games, Bryan is an ordinary man with little combat experience. His journey follows the games’ survival structure as he moves between dangerous locations, searches for weapons and tries to conserve ammunition.

Cregger, who directed Barbarian (2022) and Weapons (2025), co-wrote the screenplay with Shay Hatten. The cast also includes Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Paul Walter Hauser.

Produced by Columbia Pictures and Constantin Film in association with TriStar Pictures, Resident Evil was filmed for IMAX.

The film opens in Malaysian cinemas on Sept 16.
