Salesman pleads not guilty to human trafficking charges

A 22-year-old salesman faces three human trafficking charges involving forced labour exploitation, including two minors, in Johor Bahru Sessions Court.

JOHOR BAHRU: A salesman pleaded not guilty to three counts of human trafficking involving forced labour exploitation at the Sessions Court here today.

Vincent Sak Zhan Sheng, 22, entered his plea before Judge Hidayatul Syuhada Shamsudin.

The first charge alleges Sak and five other individuals trafficked a 26-year-old man at premises in Taman Lagenda Putra, Kulai between March 23 and May 23 this year.

This charge falls under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007, read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, carrying a maximum 20-year prison sentence and fine upon conviction.

The two additional charges involve trafficking two teenagers – a 15-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy – at the same location between April and May 23 this year.

These charges were framed under Section 14 of the ATIPSOM Act for the same forced labour exploitation purpose.

The court granted Sak bail of RM10,000 for each charge with one surety and ordered him to surrender his passport.

He must report monthly to the nearest police station and refrain from intimidating witnesses.

The case has been set for mention on January 13.

Deputy public prosecutor Amirah Tasnim Saleh handled the prosecution while lawyer Datin Freda Sabapathy represented the accused.
