A 26-year-old teacher recently incurred the wrath of Malaysian netizens after he shared on X if he should take a loan to get married.

The man in an anonymous post shared that he just got his teaching position in November and has zero savings and zero debt. His dilemma?

His fiancée — the eldest daughter of her family — wants them to tie the knot as soon as possible as her younger sister wants to get married in April or May 2026.

“Should I take a RM30,000 personal loan, tied for five years to get married?”

Within hours, Malaysians flooded the post with brutal honesty.

“Ugh, you’re a teacher but you’re still so dumb. People on Twitter keep repeating this over and over again: Don’t get into debt before marriage! If your girlfriend wants to freak out, let her. This is exactly when you get to see her true colors. With your debt too. Think, man, think,” commented a frustrated netizen.

Others told him to save up instead or look for a part time job instead of getting himself into debt.

“Even I, at 24, think rationally. Do you think it’s easy to pay back debt once you have it? If she loved you, she wouldn’t ask you to take out a loan. Go find a part-time job or something that can be a business; don’t make debt a habit.”

“Don’t use a loan to get married. Put in the effort to save up. If the girlfriend can’t wait, find someone else. Been dating for a long time? Who asked you to date? As simple as that,” commented another.
