A 23-year-old man who went missing near a workers’ quarters in Tatau has been found drowned following a two-day search and rescue operation.
BINTULU: The body of a young man believed to have fallen into a pond near workers’ quarters at Simpang Rumah Panjang Kiroh Bali in Tatau has been found.
The victim, identified as 23-year-old Daniel Jumau, was reported missing on Sunday afternoon after his friends discovered his towel and slippers by the water’s edge.
The Tatau Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call at 4.18pm and arrived at the scene, located about one kilometre away, within a minute.
An initial search and rescue operation was launched but failed to locate the victim before nightfall.
The operation resumed on Monday with a team of 14 personnel from the Tatau station, supported by the Water Rescue Team from Bintulu, police, and Civil Defence Force members.
Divers initiated an underwater search while other teams conducted a visual surface sweep.
The victim was found by divers at the bottom of the pond at a depth of approximately six metres at 10.41am on Monday.
His body was recovered and handed over to police at 10.46am, with the operation officially terminated at 11.01am.
The search was led by Tatau Fire and Rescue Station chief, Senior Fire Officer II Herudin Ealhi.
