Flood victims rise in Terengganu, situation improves in Sarawak

Flood evacuees in Terengganu increase to 470, while Sarawak sees relief with only eight victims remaining in shelters this morning.

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood evacuees in Terengganu has risen slightly this morning, while the situation in Sarawak shows signs of improvement.

As of 9 am, 470 people from 141 families are housed in temporary relief centres in Terengganu, up from 326 people from 101 families last evening.

The Terengganu State Disaster Management Committee secretariat reported that Hulu Terengganu has 266 victims from 86 families in four centres.

These centres are located in the halls of Kampung Lubok Periok, Kampung Peneh Mosque, Kampung Kemat and Kampung Pelandan.

In Kemaman, 204 victims from 56 families are taking shelter across six different relief centres.

According to publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my, the Sungai Besut station at Jambatan Keruak has exceeded the danger level.

The Sungai Kemaman at Rumah Pam Paya Paman and Sungai Tersat in Kampung Sekayu have both surpassed the warning level.

In Sarawak, the state of affairs has eased significantly.

The Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee stated that as of 8 am, only eight victims remain in shelters.

Two flood victims from one family are at Sekolah Kebangsaan Suai in Niah.

Two other flood victims and four landslide victims are being accommodated at the Dewan Bulan Sabit Merah relief centre.

This marks a decrease from the 11 people from five families who were housed in centres yesterday evening. – Bernama
