Malaysian border agency interviews begin, many special forces veterans apply

AKPS interview sessions start for 200 vacancies, attracting strong interest from Malaysian Armed Forces special forces veterans, says deputy minister.

MELAKA: Interview sessions for the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) staff intake have commenced with strong interest from veterans of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF).

Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said most applicants are veterans from elite units like the Special Service Group (GGK), Naval Special Forces (PASKAL), Air Force Special Forces (PASKAU), and airborne units.

“To date, many have contacted me to express their interest in joining AKPS to continue serving after retirement,” he told reporters after a ceremony in Bukit Katil.

He clarified that the Ministry of Defence only coordinates a list of eligible veterans for the interviews.

The final recruitment process and selection for approximately 200 vacancies are fully managed by AKPS itself.

Updates on recruitment will be provided periodically, with the final list of successful candidates expected in January.

Last month, AKPS director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the agency would recruit 220 MAF veterans in stages starting January 2026.

He added that recruitment for support roles would proceed through contract appointments once funding is secured.
