Xpeng Prepares Longer-Range X9 BEV Update After Strong MPV Sales Run

Xpeng is preparing a refreshed version of its X9 battery-electric MPV after a strong November performance that saw the model emerge as the best-selling high-end BEV and extended-range electric MPV in China. The update puts the spotlight firmly on driving range, with two new BEV variants promising cruising distances of up to 710 km and 750 km.

For now, the X9 line-up in China comprises four fully electric versions alongside two extended-range models. The BEV variants are priced between 359,800 and 459,800 yuan, which translates to roughly RM240,000 to RM307,000, while the EREV models sit lower at between 309,800 and 329,800 yuan, or about RM207,000 to RM220,000. The updated BEV versions are expected to slot neatly into this existing structure rather than replace any current offerings.

Buyers will be able to choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The front-wheel-drive X9 continues with a single electric motor delivering 315 hp, and 450 Nm of torque. The all-wheel-drive variant adds a rear motor rated at 135 kW and 190 Nm, bringing total system output to 370 kW, or 496 hp. Both versions use a 110 kWh ternary lithium battery supplied by CALB-Tech, enabling the extended driving ranges. Kerb weight stands at 2,685 kg for the front-wheel-drive model and 2,740 kg for the all-wheel-drive version.

Xpeng is doubling down on its positioning of the X9 as an “AI vehicle”. The updated model is equipped with three in-house developed Turing AI chips, delivering a combined computing power of 2,250 TOPS. Two of the chips support the VLA AI model that underpins advanced driver assistance systems, while the third runs the VLM AI model responsible for the intelligent cockpit and in-car interaction features.

Xpeng Prepares Longer-Range X9 BEV Update After Strong MPV Sales Run

In terms of styling, the refreshed X9 stays largely faithful to the current design. Changes are limited to subtle tweaks at the front and rear bumpers to better align the look with the extended-range variant. The dimensions see only a small adjustment, with overall length increasing by 23 mm to 5,316 mm, while width, height and wheelbase remain unchanged at 1,988 mm, 1,785 mm and 3,160 mm respectively.

With its longer range, upgraded computing hardware and familiar design, the updated Xpeng X9 BEV appears well placed to capitalise on its recent sales success and strengthen its standing in China’s increasingly competitive premium electric MPV market.
