Bukit Bintang roads to close for Visit Malaysia Year 2026 launch

Jalan Bukit Bintang and Jalan Sultan Ismail will be closed on Jan 1 and 3 for the ‘I LITE U’ festival, the opening event for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

KUALA LUMPUR: Several main roads in Bukit Bintang will be temporarily closed on January 1 and 3 to facilitate the “I LITE U” Festival.

The festival is the opening event for Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2026.

A full rehearsal will take place on January 1 from 6 pm, requiring the complete closure of Jalan Bukit Bintang from Pavilion Kuala Lumpur to Federal Hotel.

The official event will be held on January 3 from 7.30 pm to 10 pm and will also require a full road closure.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the event includes two main components.

These are an opening ceremony inside Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and a launch ceremony featuring a ‘Cultural Parade’ along Jalan Bukit Bintang.

He added that 20 contingents, including seven marching bands, will participate in the parade.

The parade will proceed from Pavilion to the front of Federal Hotel, covering 900 metres to the intersection of Jalan Bukit Bintang and Jalan Sultan Ismail.

Road closures will be managed by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

DBKL stated the closures will affect Jalan Bukit Bintang and Jalan Sultan Ismail on January 1 from 6 pm to 11 pm and on January 3 from 6 pm to midnight.

Additionally, Jalan Bukit Bintang will be fully closed for the New Year’s Eve 2026 celebration from 5 pm on December 31 until 2 am on January 1, 2026.

The “I LITE U” launch on January 3 will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

It will also be attended by Oscar-winning actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh.
