PAS offers to lead PN following Muhyiddin’s resignation

PAS seeks to lead PN after Muhyiddin quits. Party exits Perlis Exco but remains in government

PETALING JAYA: PAS has offered to take the helm of Perikatan Nasional (PN) to strengthen the coalition ahead of future state and general elections, following Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation as PN chairman.

In a statement today, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the party is ready to lead PN to strengthen the organisation and prepare for upcoming state elections and the next general election.

“PAS calls on all parties to take note of current developments and to take all necessary steps to strengthen the trust of the people in PN,” he said.

Muhyiddin announced his resignation as PN chairman earlier today, following internal tensions within the coalition over the Perlis state government leadership.

Takiyuddin also affirmed PAS’s continued presence in the Perlis state government, saying the party remains committed to maintaining its role in line with the mandate given by voters in the 15th General Election.

However, he said that PAS will not participate in the new state executive council (EXCO) to be formed under the incoming Perlis Menteri Besar, and all existing PAS EXCO members will resign in solidarity with the former Chief Minister.

PAS also reiterated its commitment to uphold the rule of law, democratic principles, the constitutional monarchy, and the guidance of the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, for the welfare of the state and its people.
