Chelsea’s Maresca booed after Palmer substitution in Bournemouth draw

Chelsea fans booed Enzo Maresca for substituting Cole Palmer in a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, extending their poor run to one win in seven Premier League games.

LONDON: Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca faced the ire of home fans after a 2-2 draw with struggling Bournemouth extended their miserable Premier League run.

The Blues have now won just one of their last seven league games, with Maresca’s decision to substitute Cole Palmer after the hour mark loudly booed at Stamford Bridge.

All four goals were scored in a frantic opening 27 minutes. David Brooks gave Bournemouth an early lead before Palmer equalised from the penalty spot.

Enzo Fernandez then fired Chelsea ahead, but Justin Kluivert soon levelled for the visitors from a long throw.

Bournemouth could have snatched a first win since October in stoppage time, but Enes Unal wasted a glorious chance.

In other matches, Newcastle secured only a second away league win this season by beating Burnley 3-1.

Joelinton and Yoane Wissa put Newcastle 2-0 up inside seven minutes, with Bruno Guimaraes sealing the win after Josh Laurent had pulled one back for Burnley.

Everton climbed into the top half of the table with a 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest, their second victory over former boss Sean Dyche’s side this month.

West Ham twice blew the lead in a 2-2 home draw with Brighton, with Joel Veltman’s second-half equaliser cancelling out Lucas Paqueta’s penalty.
