Police detain two more men, bringing total arrests to four, in connection with a fatal machete attack at a Sungai Bakap restaurant last week.
NIBONG TEBAL: Police have detained two more men in connection with a fatal assault at a restaurant in Sungai Bakap last Tuesday.
Penang Police Chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said the two men, both in their 30s, were arrested separately around Nibong Tebal early this morning.
They will be remanded for seven days to assist investigations into the attack, which left one man dead and two others injured.
“Further investigation is ongoing, and so far, police have detained two more men, bringing the total number of arrests to four,” Azizee said when contacted.
He stated that all four detained men know each other, and police are actively tracking down several other suspects.
The victims were having drinks together when they were attacked by more than 15 masked men armed with sharp objects.
Azizee confirmed the three victims were businessmen.
One injured victim, previously in critical condition, is now stable but under observation at Seberang Jaya Hospital.
The other is receiving treatment at Sungai Bakap Hospital.
The motive is still under investigation, with police not ruling out a debt-related dispute.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Police had earlier detained a 36-year-old security manager and another suspect working in car rentals.
In the 4.30pm incident, a group armed with machetes attacked the victims, allegedly over debt issues.
A 59-year-old man sustained severe head injuries and died, while two others were seriously injured.
