Siren warning a normal occurrence

KUALA TERENGGANU: The public should not panic when they hear sounds of the siren in areas close to rivers which exceed warning levels, since it is a normal warning to alert the people.
Terengganu National Security Council (MKN) acting secretary Roslina Ngah, when contacted by Bernama, said the siren would go off automatically when the water level exceeded the warning level.
"Residents staying close to rivers are used to the siren, but maybe for outsiders, it is something strange. It is only a normal reminder for surrounding residents to be alert," she said when commenting on rumours on social sites that the flood in the state was worsening when the sirens go off.
Roslina said as of 2pm yesterday, only two rivers had exceeded the warning levels, namely, Sungai Chalok at the Chalok Bridge and Sungai Setiu at the Permaisuri Bridge.
"Meanwhile, two rivers in the state had exceeded the alert level, namely Sungai Marang at Pengkalan Berangan and Sungai Cherul at the Ban Ho Bridge in Kemaman.
"In addition, nine river levels had exceeded the danger mark, namely, Sungai Besut in Kampung La, Sungai Dungun (Dungun), Sungai Dungun (Pasir Raja), Sungai Dungun (Kuala Jengai), Sungai Dungun (Jerangau Bridge)," she said.
"Also in the list are Sungai Kemaman (Air Putih Bridge), Sungai Berang (Kampung Menerong), Sungai Nerus (Kampung Langkap), Sungai Telemong (Kampung Kuala Ping) and Sungai Tebak (Tebak Bridge) in Kemaman.
