PETALING JAYA: One of Radio Malaysia English Station's most iconic disc jockeys, Vicky Skelchy (pix) passed away peacefully in Perth, Australia late last week after a short illness.
Vicky was one of the English sections' most popular disc jockeys who helmed a number of popular pop shows including a review of the hits for the week. She will be remembered for especially giving air play for the music made popular by such Malaysian and Singapore groups as The Strollers, Naomi and the Boys and the Quests.
She left Radio Malaysia in the late 1970s to pursue her interest in managing events in Penang, well before Event Management became a course of study in tertiary educational institutions. It was in Penang that she met her husband to be, a German chef, Karl Hans Bruehl. The couple migrated to Perth which became their home for the last twenty or so years.
Vicky was the youngest child born to B. A. Skelchy, a member of the Public Services Commission, and his wife Nancy and she had seven siblings. She leaves behind her husband and three sisters.
