SHAH ALAM: PAS is not stopping its members from joining in the Bersih 4.0 rally, which to be held next weekend.
Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad said the party has no problem with its members attending the rally, which is expected to be held on Aug 29 and 30 in Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak and Sabah.
"There is no problem with them attending (Bersih 4.0).
"There were rumours that we have stopped them, this is untrue. We do not stop them," he told reporters here at the sidelines of the launch of the Rumah Selangorku programme in Setia Alam today.
He also expressed hope that PAS members attending the rally would participate 'peacefully and safely'.
It was reported that PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi earlier today claimed that the Islamist party was not invited by Bersih 2.0 secretariat to join the rally.
However, Bersih 2.0 chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah was quoted in a local daily that the coalition had sent out invitations to all opposition parties as well as Barisan Nasional parties.
On a separate matter, Iskandar said although there has been a recent ongoing spate of members and leaders resigning, the party remains undeterred.
"We have enough members to replace the party branch committee members who have resigned," he said.
He added that the branches, of which its members have resigned, will not be closed down, as the branches are still valid according to the Registrar of Societies.
It was reported that several PAS branch committee members have resigned ad hoc to join Gerakan Harapan Baru – a newly formed party deemed to replace PAS in the new Pakatan Rakyat 2.0 coaltion with DAP and PAS.
