PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak today took a swipe at a certain Malaysian for her recent meeting with a Sulu princess during a trip to the Philippines.
"Certainly, the Lahad Datu intrusion by Sulu terrorists is still fresh in our memories. Scores of our security forces lost their lives in a most cruel manner at that time.
"The action of a citizen of our country in meeting and appearing to be on friendly terms with a person linked to the Sulu terrorists is disrespectful to our citizens, especially those in Sabah," he said in a Facebook posting yesterday.
Najib is believed to be referring to PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar, who was seen taking pictures with Sulu representative Jacel Kiram in the Philippines recently.
A photo of the meeting between the two was posted on Jacel's Facebook account. In the photo, both Nurul Izzah and Jacel are seen holding posters demanding for the release of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who is currently serving a jail term for a sodomy conviction.
The Lembah Pantai MP has since come under severe criticism for her meeting with Jacel, who is the daughter of self-proclaimed Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III.
Jamalul was the mastermind behind the Sulu incursion of Lahad Datu in 2013, in which he ordered some 200 members of his "Royal Sulu Army" to invade Sabah to stake his claim over the state.
Nurul Izzah has since apologised for the incident, saying she regrets the hurt it might have caused to the families of the victims and those affected by the incursion.
Last Friday police recorded a statement from Nurul Izzah over her meeting with Jacel.
Police have confirmed that she is being investigated under Section 124(L) of the Penal Code for attempting to commit sabotage.
