Police seize drugs worth some RM8m in bust

JOHOR BARU: Police busted a drug lab worth some RM8 million after arresting six men at Taman Sri Pelangi last Friday.
In the raid held about 3.20pm, police recovered 58kg of powder believed to be ecstasy, 5,290 ecstasy pills, a kilogramme of syabu and 2kg of chemical powder besides others used in processing ecstasy pills.
Police also seized four air rifles, two air pistols, two live bullets, five vehicles worth RM390,140 and RM5,140 in cash.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Sri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said their breakthrough came following a tip off.
The Bukit Aman's Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING) and Narcotics Department, he added, busted the syndicate's activity with the arrest of two suspects aged 37 and another in his 40s inside the house.
"A check led to police recovering some RM8.1 million worth of drugs meant for Singapore and Indonesia market.
Mohd Mokhtar said the syndicate has been using the house as their drug laboratory for some four months and the state is used as a transit point.
He added the arrest and discovery led to police arresting another four people aged between 37 and 45 years in Taman Sutera, Century Garden, Permas Jaya and Taman Daya between Friday and Saturday.
Initial police investigations revealed that two suspects had previous convictions. All six are remanded until January 15 under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
