IPOH: The Perak state forestry department is all geared to plant another five million trees in the next two years.
This move comes with the department having planted one million trees within a year instead of the given period of two years to sustain the greenery environment..
Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said this was to protect the environment and have green sites throughout the state.
"With the department having successfully embarked on its tree planting programme, more trees will be planted," he told reporters after officiating the state level International Day of Forest at Taman Eko Rimba Kledang Saiong here today.
He said logging companies are also required to replant trees after the existing ones are logged in forest areas and this would be monitored although it is a challenge with the department officers having to go deep into the forest to check.
"It is a government policy to replant trees in the forest as it will take 50 to 100 years for the trees to grow," he added.
He said loggers who do not adhere to government's terms and conditions will stand to lose their deposit for logging activities.
On another issue, Zambry said eco park will be included in the Animation Theme Park package which is under construction in Meru Raya.
He added the Perak State Development Corporation will work with the forestry department on the package to make the park as another tourist attraction.
The park is located on a 50ha forest, a place to enjoy the green and waterfalls within a city.
