KUALA LUMPUR: Vivian Lee today told the sessions court that she had tried to stop her ex-boyfriend, sex blogger Alvin Tan, from posting a picture of the two eating “Bak Kut Teh” on their Facebook account.
Lee testified that Tan had posted the picture on July 11, 2013 without her knowledge which made her upset, unhappy and angry, leading to a “big fight” over the posting.
“He told me that he thought it was hilarious,” said Lee, when questioned by lawyer Chong Joo Tian if Tan had told her the reason for uploading the picture.
“In other words, he thought it was a ‘joke’?” asked Chong and Lee replied: “Yes.”
Lee said on July 10, 2013, they had taken a “selfie” when they went out for dinner.
“When we returned home, Alvin showed me a picture which he had edited with the selfie and said he had posted it on Facebook,” said Lee, adding that it was posted on their “Alvivi” Facebook page.
She said Alvin did not inform her, prior to uploading the picture on Facebook.
“I asked him to take it down but he refused because he wanted to see the reaction to the picture.
“We had a big fight that night. We were shouting and arguing over the posting. I tried to grab the laptop from him but he pushed me away, so, I couldn’t get hold of the laptop,” Lee said.
Lee, who was staying with Tan in an apartment in Complex Mutiara, Jalan Ipoh, said they ended up doing their own work.
Lee said the posting was removed following a “very negative” reaction and it was replaced with the words “Ampunkanlah kami” (forgive us).
Tan or Tan Jye Yee and Lee or Lee May Ling were charged under the Sedition Act 1948 for uploading a picture with a caption, “Selamat Berbuka Puasa. (with Bak Kut Teh ... fragrant, delicious and appetising)” on their Facebook page which had insulted Muslims during Ramadan.
The hearing will continue tomorrow.
