KUALA LUMPUR: Train services for Rapid KL LRT Sri Petaling Line was temporarily disrupted late evening yesterday due to power failure when a hail storm hit major parts of the city.
Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd CEO, Ahmad Nizam Mohamed Amin said three LRT sub-stations – each at Sungai Besi, Bukit Jalil and Bandar Tasik Selatan, were affected.
"While services between Cheras and Sri Petaling stopped from 6.24pm, train services continued with longer waiting period between Awan Besar and Bandar Puteri.
"All, except one train, were stranded at the platforms and passengers were disembarked," he said in a statement here, today.
Ahmad Nizam said an operations team was dispatched to evacuate stranded passengers onboard the train near the Bukit Jalil station.
"All 220 passengers were safely evacuated by 8.15pm," he said.
Ahmad Nizam said Rapid KL buses were also dispatched to ferry passengers from the affected LRT stations.
"However, the movements of the buses were disrupted due to heavy traffic caused by fallen trees which hindered traffic flow.
"We are truly sorry for inconvenience caused to our customers due to the unfortunate incident," he added.
Normal service resumed at 9pm. — Bernama
