Police cripple luxury car theft gang

KULAI: Police have crippled a luxury car theft gang, known as "Metro Gang" following the arrest of seven members, including the mastermind following a three week operation in South Johor.
Police believe the gang had stolen at least 10 luxury cars valued about RM1 million.
Johor police chief Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said when a car from Singapore was reported missing at the Angsana Plaza car park, Tampoi on June 7, he immediately directed five district police chiefs in Southern Johor to focus on finding it.
The owner just bought the car in Singapore three days ago and when he drove to Johor Baru to shop, the car stolen the same day.
Speaking after presenting appreciation letters to three policemen, he said a team from the Kulai police district headquarters led by Insp Hafizuddin Mohamad and Insp Cassidy Akbanta raided a house in Kempas and arrested a man on June 15.
Following his arrest, police arrested another 4 male and 2 female suspects and discovered six luxury cars in various housing areas in Johor Baru.
The suspects, aged between 21 to 40-year-old, are being remanded for investigations.
