New party driven by vengeance, not genuine struggle: Umno man

PETALING JAYA: Any new party formed after breaking away from Umno will not be able to succeed as its formation was driven by vengeance, and not genuine struggle.
Umno permanent chairman Tan Sri Badruddin Amiruldin said history has proven that many Umno splinter parties were not able to survive for long.
He was commenting on the possible formation of a new party spearheaded by ex-Umno members like former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and sacked Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
"Looking back in history, there has not been a single party formed by members who had exited Umno and manage to succeed," he said.
"A party will not be able to flourish if it is formed with vengeance in mind," he told reporters after attending a ceremony to send off the first group of haj pilgrims at Tabung Haji Complex here today.
Muhyiddin in his Facebook posting on Wednesday confirmed that he would be submitting an application for a new political party to the Registrar of Societies soon.
The new party is slated to work alongside the federal opposition coalition with the aim of unseating Barisan Nasional in the next general election.
Badruddin said Muhyiddin used to receive the support of Umno members and had gained a lot from the party.
"But in the end, he stabs Umno from behind. Let him go," he said.
He said party leaders should remain committed to Umno and provide their support even after they have lost their positions.
Badruddin also hit out at those who accused Umno members of receiving "dedak", or animal feed, from party president Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
He said he was hurt by the use of such a term as it was an insult to those who had struggled for the party.
"Dedak is food for animals, fed to chickens, ducks and pigs. Does this means that Umno members are animals?" he asked.
