Azalina to head new taskforce on crimes against children
PETALING JAYA: Minister in the Prime Minister Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said (pix) will be the chair of a new taskforce formed to tackle the issue of sexual crime against children.
The Pengerang MP in a statement said the taskforce will be participated by representatives from the Attorney-General's Chamber and the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry.
She added the taskforce would also include Members of Parliament, Malaysian Bar Council, Malaysian Syariah Lawyers Association,academicians, non-governmental organisations and other experts.
"I welcome and thank Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak for entrusting me to chair the taskforce on sexual crime against children," she said.
"The taskforce's first meeting will be held in the near time," Azalina said in the statement.
Najib in his speech at the 2016 National Women's Day celebration yesterday announced the formation of a taskforce to review laws for crimes committed against children.
Azalina said the annoucement made by Najib was timely following recent spate of cases on sexual crimes against children.
"The annoucement has shown the commitment of government in ensuring issues related to women and children could be handled effectively," she said.
"This has shown that the government is always concerned and is listening to views raised by various parties, especially that related to women and children," she added
