SHAH ALAM: Police nabbed three individuals and made a combined drug seizure worth more than RM500,000 in two separate incidents recently.
Selangor Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief ACP Amran Ramli said the first bust on Sept 19 led to a seizure of 78.6kg of ganja in a car.
"A police patrol unit conducting surveillance in the Sungai Buloh area spotted a car being driven suspiciously and approached the driver at 6pm.
"When the policemen identified themselves, the suspect, a 41-year-old Indonesian, tried to escape but he was caught following a scuffle," said Amran at a press conference at the Selangor police headquarters in Shah Alam today.
He said checks on the car led to the seizure of 78 slabs of ganja.
In the second operation, police seized more than 19,000 Eramin 5 pills on Sept 21 estimated at RM295,650.
Amran said police surveillance in the Bandar Kinrara area in Puchong led them to the arrest of two suspects, a taxi driver and a businessman, both locals.
In the 3.30pm incident, police stopped the 45-year-old taxi driver and conducted a vehicle inspection and uncovered the pills.
In a follow-up operation, a businessman, 43, was arrested.
Two vehicles and RM8,000 were also confiscated as part of the second operation.
The suspects are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
