‘Jumping queue’ cop nabbed

KUALA LUMPUR: A policeman has been arrested for allegedly abusing his power after he attempted to jump queue at an automated teller machine (ATM) at a bank here.
A source told theSun the incident took place at about 5pm on Saturday in a bank at Publika Solaris here.
“The suspect, who was way back in the queue, approached a member of the public, who unknown to him is a high-ranking policeman from another state, and introduced himself as a policeman by flashing his badge.
"He demanded that he be allowed to use the ATM first,” the source said.
The senior cop then identified himself and asked the suspect for his authorisation card.
The suspect raised his voice and started a heated argument before fleeing the scene.
The drama did not end there as the officer caught up with the suspect minutes later, this time in front of a nearby food outlet.
Again the officer demanded for the authorisation card.
“This time, the suspect challenged him by claiming that he has ‘big connections’ and was not interested in arguing or fighting with the officer,” the source said, adding that after the confrontation the suspect fled again.
The suspect was arrested soon after by auxiliary policemen who were alerted by the senior cop.
Checks found that the 31-year-old constable has been in service since 2012 and is stationed in Sungai Besi police station.
The suspect also has two previous records while in service and one prior to service – under Section 506 of the Penal Code for Criminal Intimidation and two records under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
It is learnt that the case details have been forwarded to the city Integrity and Standard Compliance Department. A senior police officer confirmed the incident.
