Jamal released, plans 'Bersih 7' campaign aimed at Selangor govt (Updated)

KUALA LUMPUR: Four days of not showering while under police custody had inspired Red Shirts leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos to launch a campaign to “clean” the Pakatan Harapan government in Selangor.
In a jibe at the Bersih 2.0 movement, Jamal, who was released on police bail today, said he got the inspiration for the campaign in his time spent in the lock-up and has called it “Bersih 7”.
“Four days spent in detention without showering has given me the inspiration to launch a new campaign, called Bersih 7,” he said outside the Ampang Jaya police headquarters.
He said the "Bersih 7" campaign is the "real" Bersih movement and they was intent on cleaning up the Selangor state government and “saving” the state.
“Selangor must be saved from the government which deceives it. Many of the pledges from their election manifesto have not been fulfilled. I was inspired during my four days in detention, and I came up with the Bersih 7 campaign,” said the Umno Sungai Besar division chief.
The Bersih 7 campaign plans to tackle seven key issues that the state government has allegedly not fulfilled, like the need for clean water, misappropriation of funds, cronyism and a corrupt government.
When asked why he decided to name the campaign "Bersih", he stated that his movement was the "real Bersih" and it was done for the people instead of the yellow shirts’ Bersih.
“Bersih 7 is clean, we only care about the people. A government that has been lying to the people needs to be ‘cleaned’,” said Jamal.
The campaign will be launched in front of the Selangor state secretariat building in Shah Alam today at 3pm with a further 700 roadshows planned at various locations statewide.
Meanwhile, Jamal called Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor “senile” after the latter’s comments on sacking party members who took part in the Red Shirts or the Bersih rally on Saturday.
“There were no Umno members involved in the rally. Those involved were from several NGOs,” he said.
“Although I am an Umno leader, I did not participate in the rally on Umno’s ticket,” he added.
“Maybe Ku Nan is old, maybe he is senile,” he said.
Jamal also commended other Red Shirt participants who were arrested at the rally, hailing them as “fighters” and “heroes”.
