Pulau Tikus assemblyman concerned over safety of Hong Seng Estate homes
GEORGE TOWN: Pulau Tikus assemblyman Yap Soo Huey has expressed concern over the safety of residents at the Hong Seng Estate in Mount Erskine following ground movements and landslides at the hill terrace area.
He said the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) had sent notices to 12 houses requesting them to vacate the premises last month.
Yap said out of the 12, two were found to be in "high-danger" and have since moved out.
She said she assisted one of the families to move to another house in the estate by paying the first month rental and deposit for the home.
"The state government should also include them as priority applicants for affordable housing in view of any emergency, " she told reporters in a press conference today.
Yap said the houses near the slope were not safe for occupancy.
She said about 650 homes in the private owned land must be vacated for long-term safety.
On Nov 7, residents were awoken by a loud crash after the front porch of one of the houses collapsed.
