KUALA LUMPUR: Issues on education, the economy, government administration, development and identity of the people are among topics which dominated the National Transformation (TN50) Premier Dialogue between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak and youths, tonight.
The dialogue session chaired by Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin which began at 9pm and telecast live over three local television stations saw the Prime Minister answering questions posed by participants directly.
Among interesting topics during the dialogue was the proposed improvements in public service administration by providing opportunities for young civil servants to play a bigger role in the country's administration.
The subject was raised by Wan Abdul Hadi Wan Muhammad Shafie who has served the civil service for 12 years.
According to Wan Abdul Hadi, various initiatives were provided by the government for the civil servants, but the group felt young officers should be given the opportunity to serve at a higher level to spur TN50.
Najib said the appointment of civil servants on merit can give a new generation the opportunity to hold higher positions and improve the government delivery system.
"I am impressed with the commitment of young civil servants to make the public service the best in the world. We can provide fast-lane for officers who show a high work culture and ethics.
"Appointments are not necessarily based on seniority. Young people can play a greater role in the country's administration."
In terms of education, Najib said the youths expect the syllabus to be more oriented towards creativity and more flexibile.
"Malaysia needs an education system that can prepare today's generation for jobs of the future.
"Our education system must focus on creativity, and creative thinking," he said since Malaysia needs quality and world class education."
On identity, Najib said it was a challenging issue and should be enhanced among the people.
Commenting on the social safety net, medical and personal wealth, he said the government would find a solution to the issue.
The premier dialogue was held concurrently with the launch of TN50 engineered by Najib.
