KUALA LUMPUR: Chronic liver patient C.Tharuna is seeking public donations to raise RM250,000 to enable her to undergo liver transplantation as soon as possible.
Tharuna, 12, was diagnosed with chronic liver disease since she was two, and had so far undergone 13 liver examinations in India.
In a press conference on Tharuna's case held at the MIC headquarters building here, MIC Youth head Datuk C.Sivaraajh also called on the public to help the girl so that the operation can be done as soon as possible.
"She must undergo operation in February at the Global Hospital in Chennai, India.
"So far, a businessman has agreed to donate RM50,000. We are also asking corporate figures to give their support in terms of money to Tharuna so that she can continue her life," he said.
Tharuna, a Standard Six student at the SJK (T) Batu Caves said she just wanted to have a normal life like normal children.
"I just want to be healthy so that I can continue my studies and enjoy life," said Tharuna.
Her mother Kogilavani Kaniappan, 37, said now was the best time for her daughter to undergo the liver transplant operation.
"The oxygen level in her heart is decreasing and doctors have advised my husband and I to make preparations for an operation as soon as possible," Kogilavani, a teacher at her daughter's school, said.
Donations can be deposited into Tharuna's bank account at Alliance Bank account number 120880020113744, under the name Tharuna A/P Chandran.
Any donations by cheque could be posted to the MIC Youth headquarters at Menara Manikavasagam, Seventh Floor, No 1, Jalan Rahmat, 50350 Kuala Lumpur. — Bernama
