KUALA LUMPUR: The National Patriots Association (Patriots) today called on the government to take stern action against a group of contract workers from China who attacked policemen who were checking on a gambling activity in Jalan Imbi, here, last Saturday.
Patriots president, Brig Gen (Rtd) Datuk Mohamed Arshad Raji, in a statement today, said these foreign workers had crossed the line and that such violent acts would have a negative impact if not curbed.
"Those involved (in attacking the police) should be deported immediately. If the government does not show sternness in dealing with this incident involving China's nationals, the same aggression might be committed by other foreign workers in this country.
"This is because the country's security and sovereignty cannot be compromised, in fact it has to be safeguarded by our multiracial people who love this country," he said.
In the 10.30pm incident last Saturday, a police patrol team was checking on a gambling activity in front of the lodgings of foreign contract workers in Jalan Imbi when they were attacked by about 20 to 30 workers from China.
Under such a threat, the policemen were forced to fire shots into the air to control the situation. — Bernama
