Beware of unauthorised tithe collectors in Kedah: LZNK

10 Jun 2018 / 19:19 H.

ALOR STAR: The Kedah Zakat Board (LZNK) has recently detected the collection of "zakat fitrah" by unauthorised tithe collectors who used their own printed receipts issued either by a surau, school or a political party.
LZNK chief executive officer, Syeikh Zakaria Othman said the activity was detected at a surau in Sungai Petani while three other complaints involved a political party and two religious schools in Pendang and Baling.
He said following public complaints and investigations, the LZNK Fitrah Management Division carried out monitoring and surveillance.
"The act by the unauthorised tithe collectors has led to misappropriation and unfair distribution of tithes as the deserving recipients are not given their allocation," he said when contacted by Bernama.
Subsequently he said the LZNK would hold discussions with the Kedah Islamic Religious Department (JAIK) Enforcement Division to prosecute the parties involved, and would also continue to monitor from time to time to curb the unlawful activity.
He also urged the people in the state to settle their zakat fitrah through the 3,200 tithe collectors officially appointed and located at mosques or pay directly at the nearest Zakat District Office or online at http://jom.zakatkedah.com.my. — Bernama
