Business as usual at MBI's housing project in Kulim

KULIM: Business goes on as usual at Taman MBI Desa Ku here despite the arrest on Monday of a man who is believed to be the founder of MBI International.
theSun observed vehicles going in and out of the residential development by ECK Development Sdn Bhd which is wholly owned by MBI International.
Several workers could also be seen working at the site but no heavy vehicles were seen at that time.
theSun's reporter was also denied entry into the site as security personnel prevented media access into the place.
"I am sorry sir, media are not allowed to go in, it is an order," one of the security guards on duty said.
A sales representative who did not want to be named said business was running as usual.
"Yes, we are aware, and I read it in the news, but this has not affected our operations at all, it is business as usual.
"Prospective buyers and our customers have nothing to worry," she said.
She said some of the units of the project have been purchased and there are still units available for those interested.
She however declined to elaborate when asked for further information about the company.
According to the website, Desa Ku will have 2,000 residences and commercial offices on a 100.362ha site here.
The development also consists of the 4.8ha agro-park as well as a convention centre on a 1.61ha plot.
MBI International, a digital currency provider, is under the spotlight after authorities detained and remanded a man in his early 50s whom they believe is the founder of the company.
The company had been red-flagged by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) for having a questionable financial scheme.
The suspect was picked up by Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry enforcement officials at the site to assist investigations under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
Authorities have also frozen 98 bank accounts with RM209 million in them as part of investigations.
