Khalid Samad faces fierce battle in Shah Alam

SHAH ALAM: Two-term Shah Alam MP Khalid Abd Samad (pix) will face a fierce battle to defend his seat in the Malay-majority constituency in the 14th General Election on May 9.
Khalid, 61, who is Amanah's communications director, will be challenged by BN candidate Datuk Azhari Shaari, who is also Shah Alam Umno division chief and PAS' Central Committee member Dr Mohd Zuhdi Marsuki.
Shah Alam parliamentary constituency Returning Officer, Datuk Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad confirmed the nomination of the three candidates at the Dewan MBSA, Section 19, here today.
Khalid's nomination was proposed by Azli Yusof and seconded by Mohamad Jamil Abdul Rahim, while Azhari's name was proposed by Loo Chung King and seconded by Arjunan Kuppan.
Meanwhile, Mohd Zuhdi, who is also PAS research centre director, was nominated by Fakhrul Azman Khalidin and seconded by Rushdan Rusmi.
Khalid (PKR-Amanah) will defend the Shah Alam seat that he held for two terms when he was still a PAS member.
In the GE13, he defeated BN candidate Datuk Zulkifli Noordin with a 10,939-vote majority.
Meanwhile, the Batu Tiga state constituency will witness a three-cornered fight between incumbent Rodziah Ismail (PKR), Abdul Halim Omar (PAS) and Datuk Ahmad Mua'adzam Shah Ya'akop (BN).
Elsewhere, in the Kota Anggerik state seat, another three-cornered fight will ensue between Jumaeah Masdi (BN), Najwan Halimi (PKR) and Ahmad Dusuki Abd Rani (PAS). — Bernama
