Maria Chin to contest under PKR ticket in GE14 (Updated)

PETALING JAYA: Former Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah will be contesting under the PKR ticket in the 14th General Election.
The announcement was made by PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar in a press conference held at the party headquarters today.
"I feel overwhelmed that today we are announcing that she is a part of the PKR family," Nurul Izzah said.
However, Nurul Izzah clarified that Maria would only be contesting under the PKR logo and had not officially joined the party.
She added that every candidate contesting under the PKR banner would be subjected to the principles of the party.
When quizzed by reporters on why she refused to join PKR, Maria said the matter could be discussed after the conclusion of the national polls.
"For me, the primary aim is to go to GE14 and win the election," she said.
Maria had earlier this month said she would not be joining any Pakatan Harapan parties in her bid to contest as a parliamentary candidate in GE14.
The prominent civil society leader said she would contest as an independent candidate under the opposition coalition's banner.
When Maria was pressed further by reporters on why she would not contest in GE14 independently, PH chief secretary Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah interjected and stressed that winning an election as an independent was next to impossible.
"It is a logo we choose to work together. It is as easy as that," he said.
