PUTRAJAYA: Pakatan Harapan deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has called on critics of Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian to remain patient and give the latter some time to prove his credentials.
He pointed out that Osman was new to the position, having only been sworn in on May 12, and that he was meant to make some mistakes in his early days of administration.
"This is a new administration. The Mentri Besar is also new, there are surely meant to be some mistakes on his part. Be patient.
"I have also said previously that I will monitor his development, not to meddle with his work, but to give advice. But what we have committed to implement, we will implement.
"The rakyat should judge him not on the statements he makes, but on the actions he made or will make," he told a press conference, here, yesterday.
Osman has come under heavy criticism over a number of his statements and actions over the past week, with several grassroots members in the PH camp already calling for a change in Mentri Besar.
Muhyiddin, however, defended Osman, saying critics should not be quick to jump the gun and to verify any issues in relation to the latter.
"There was this rumour that he had appointed a former Umno member as his political secretary. That's not true.
"That guy, Fizwan Rashidi, was appointed as the secretary officer of development under the Mentri Besar, and the appointment was made under the Johor Civil Service," he said.
