Napsiah Omar buried in Kuala Pilah

KUALA PILAH: The remains of Wanita Umno permanent chairman Tan Sri Napsiah Omar was buried at the Kampung Jawa Muslim Cemetery here today at 12.40 pm.
About 500 people, comprising family members and friends were at the graveyard to pay their last respects, as well as offer condolences to Napsiah's family.
Among those present were Tunku Besar Seri Menanti Tunku Ali Redhauddin Ibni Tuanku Muhriz; former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd.Ali; Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Malaysian Ambassador to Cambodia Datuk Seri Hasan Malek.
Napsiah died at 6.10 pm yesterday at the residence of her son in Ampang Jaya, near Kuala Lumpur. She was 74.
At about 9 am today, the body was taken to Darul Ehsan Mosque, Taman TAR, Ampang in Kuala Lumpur, where it was bathed and shrouded, and then brought to Surau Tuanku Muhriz Kampung Jawa here for the funeral prayer.
Napsiah, who is survived by a son and three daughters, had served as Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister in 1982, Minister of Public Enterprises (1987), Minister of National Unity and Social Development (1990), and a Member of the Negri Sembilan Executive Council (1995-1999).
Napsiah joined the Kuala Pilah Umno branch in 1972 and became Kuala Pilah Member of Parliament for four terms since 1982.
She later became the Pilah assemblywoman for one term after defeating Ruslan Kassim from PKR with a majority of 2,818 in the 10th general election in 1999. — Bernama
