PETALING JAYA: Datuk Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus has been appointed as the new governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, according to a Bloomberg report.
The report quotes a spokesman for Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as saying that her appointment has received the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
The former central bank official was involved in investigations into troubled state investment firm 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Nor Shamsiah served as deputy governor at BNM for six years until she left in November 2016.
She replaces Tan Sri Muhammad Ibrahim who resigned earlier this month.
The Finance Ministry will release an official statement on her appointment later today.
