KANGAR: Perlis PKR head of strategy Noor Azam Karap today urged the Barisan Nasional (BN) to quickly resolve the mentri besar crisis in the state so that the "business of administration can proceed as normal".
The Kuala Perlis asemblyman said all BN assemblymen in the state should respect the decision of Raja Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail in appointing Datuk Seri Azlan Man as the Mentri Besar.
"We (PKR) have no issue with the decision of Tuanku because BN won the majority but this prolonged crisis in not good for Perlis, I hope this issue can be settled by Aidilfitri (which will be celebrated in two week's time)," he told reporters after bringing 40 orphans and needy children Aidilfitri shopping at a supermarket, here today.
The crisis erupted when nine of 10 BN assemblymen refused to accept the appointment of Azlan as mentri besar. They also did not attend Azlan's swearing-in ceremony at Istana Arau on May 24.
The nine "rebel" assemblymen have the backing of Perlis BN chairman Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim.
In the 14th general election on May 9, Perlis BN won 10 of the 15 state seats, including Azlan who won the Bintong seat. Shahidan did not contest a state seat but instead won the Arau parliamentary seat. — Bernama
