KUALA LUMPUR: The Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) community, comprising the organisation's group of companies and its employees, has contributed RM1.1 million to Tabung Harapan Malaysia in support of the government's efforts to reduce the country's debts.
Chairman Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin presented the contribution to Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng at the latter's office today.
"The contribution demonstrates that Perodua and our staff want a better Malaysia, and that we are more than happy to show our support for the cause," Asmat said in a statement today.
Tabung Harapan Malaysia (Malaysian Hope Fund) was launched by the Pakatan Harapan government on May 30, 2018 to assist the government in tiding over its debts and liabilities, which have exceeded RM1 trillion.
Various organisations, groups and individuals have donated over RM180 million to the fund as at end-August.
"We understand that the efforts to reduce the country's debt levels will take some time, and we will support the government of the day in improving the country's economy through the Malaysian automotive eco-system," Asmat added.
For this year, Perodua has committed to acquire RM5 billion worth of automotive components through its vendors, made up of mainly local companies.
Perodua has projected to sell 209,000 vehicles this year that will benefit its independent dealers nationwide. — Bernama
