PETALING JAYA: The newly built Petaling Jaya Old Town Bus Terminal in Jalan Othman here is yet to open because there is no water supply to the building.
A source from the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) told theSun that an issue with the contractor in charge of the project had led to Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor's (Syabas) refusing to connect water supply.
The source, who requested anonymity, cited technical issues and lack of compliance from the contractor, causing dissatisfaction from the utility company.
"There were things that the contractor had erred which have caused Syabas to be dissatisfied with the terminal.
"We have since complied (with the regulations). Now, we are only waiting for Syabas to give us the green light," the source said.
The source refused to elaborate more on the no-compliance of the contractor, mentioning only issues related to "paperwork and working stages on site".
The source said that MBPJ had already informed Syabas on the remedy works done to the terminal, adding that connection of water supply would be made in the nearest future.
theSun has contacted Syabas for clarification and is still waiting for a response at press time.
Meanwhile, MBPJ communications officer Hasbullah Juyahir said the opening of the terminal was delayed several times to ensure the building was completely safe for public use.
"We do inspections from time to time, to look at the quality of the construction. Sometimes, there are things that need fixing.
"Not to say the building is damaged, but it's just standard procedure. We don't want it open unless it's 100% complete and safe," he told theSun.
Hasbullah said the terminal would be open to the public by the first half of next year, adding that it is currently undergoing the "final touches".
A check by theSun at the terminal has found out that the water taps are running dry, although electricity supply has been connected.
