Police concerned over mushroom-laced cigarettes

PETALING JAYA: Police have uncovered what they described as "the strongest toxic cigarettes" which allow smokers to evade the dragnet in drug enforcement raids as the substance does not show up in urine drug screening.
According to a report in China Press today, police stumbled upon the new designer drug, which goes by its street name "Mushroom", during a raid in Kuala Lumpur recently.
What surprised them is that the drug, which is embedded in cigarettes sold at exorbitant prices at nightspots and other entertainment centres, is hard to detect via urine tests.
"Mushroom", which looks like ganja when it is ground into powder, is tasteless and odourless and known to produce the same effect as ganja.
A person can reach a state of "high" within 10 to 15 minutes of smoking a stick of Mushroom-laced cigarette.
What appeals to addicts is the fact that this hallucinogenic drug does not show up in ordinary urine tests, thus allowing addicts to avoid arrest during drug raids.
It is learned that these "Mushroom cigarettes" are peddled at not less than RM700 a pack in nightspots in the city.
