Police safely dispose of WWII bomb in central Perak

PARIT: A 454-kg bomb believed to be left behind during the Second World War which was found in an oil palm plantation here yesterday evening was successfully destroyed at about 5.15pm.
The active bomb was exploded by 40 officers and personnel of the Bomb Disposal Units of Perak police contingent and Bukit Aman after preparatory works to reduce the impact of the explosion were completed at 3pm.
Central Perak police chief Supt Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said three explosions took place to ensure the 1.2m long bomb with a circumference of 1m was completely blasted away.
"The first detonation took place at about 3.35 pm before the second explosion at 4.22pm. We decide to continue with a stronger third explosion at 5.15pm to ensure the bomb was completely disposed of," he told reporters at the incident location, here today.
The bomb was found by an Orang Asli working at the plantation at about 5.30pm yesterday. — Bernama
