KUALA LUMPUR: Police will form a task force to investigate an incident involving a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and a car lease and rental company in Kajang where the NGO barged into the company's premises for allegedly cheating several individuals who had leased their cars to it.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIGP) Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said he would chair the task force and a meeting will be held on Monday.
"The task force comprises representatives from district CID, investigation officers of the case and the district police chief," he said at the closing ceremony of the 24th Malaysia-Thailand working committee meeting on criminal activities in Berjaya Times Square here today.
"I want the task force to screen through every police report lodged by the individuals involved in the incident."
Noor Rashid said allegations that police were delaying the investigations were untrue.
On claims that the company committed offences, he said police needed time to study agreements that were signed by the company and its clients.
"We do not defend anyone. We will take action against anyone who breaks the law," he added.
On July 10, the purported fraud came to light when several Islamic Consumer Association of Malaysia (PPIM) activists and victims demanded the release of vehicles kept at the company's storehouse in Kajang.
The group allegedly barged into the premises and did not produce any court order to enter the storehouse.
The case is being investigated under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass and Section 427 for causing mischief.
Meanwhile, on the Malaysia-Thailand working committee meeting, Noor Rashid said police will continue to strengthen ties with Thail police to combat criminal activities.
When asked about terrorist threats, he said there have always been terror threats and police have been monitoring the militants closely with arrests being made in the past.
"There is no solo action here, we need to team up as both countries share the same issues," he said.
Also present were Thailand deputy police chief General Sutep Dechrugsa and Commander of Thai Foreign Affairs Division Major-General Apichat Suriboonya.
