MALACCA: The road that leads to the Malacca International Trade Centre (MITC) interchange will be closed twice weekly from this week until November to facilitate the construction of an elevated interchange in the area.
State Works, Transport and Public Amenities Committee chairman Mohd Sofi Abdul Wahab said the road would be closed from 10pm to 6am of the following day to ensure safety of road users.
He added however, that there were no fixed days for the closure.
Those coming from Ayer Keroh toll plaza could take the alternative Botanical Garden interchange to Taman Tasik Utama, MITC and the SPA highway, he said in a statement here today.
"Road users from Jasin heading to Taman Tasik Utama can also take the alternative Botanical Garden interchange or the U-turn junction near Ayer Keroh Post Office.
"Those coming from the city heading to the Ayer Keroh toll plaza can use the alternative route from Jalan Ayer Keroh Lama and the juncture to Mydin Supermarket," he added.
Mohd Sofi said the construction of the elevated interchange would facilitate the traffic flow along Lebuh Ayer Keroh, which is the main tourist route to Malacca City, especially during the weekends and holiday seasons.
He said the project was part of the Malacca traffic dispersal project, which was 82% completed and expected to be ready by Feb 11 next year. — Bernama
