4-meter sinkhole forces road closure near Semenyih school

Authorities close road near SK Bandar Tasik Kesuma after deep sinkhole linked to sewer line appears

LOCAL authorities have cordoned off a thoroughfare adjacent to SK Bandar Tasik Kesuma in Semenyih, Selangor, following the emergence of a four-meter-deep cavity on Tuesday morning.

Kajang Municipal Council’s corporate planning and public relations director, Kamarul Izlan Sulaiman, revealed that preliminary investigations traced the formation to infrastructure near a sewerage utility pipeline.

“The council has informed the relevant utility agency to take appropriate remedial measures,” he stated to Harian Metro.

Footage showing the crater with water coursing through it has circulated extensively across social media platforms. The 30-second clip drew the attention of local representatives, prompting swift action.

Semenyih constituency coordinator Datuk Johan Abd Aziz confirmed his office had lodged an official report with MPKj regarding the infrastructure failure.

Abd Aziz issued an advisory urging motorists, particularly guardians collecting students from the primary school, to exercise heightened caution and seek alternative routes until repair works are completed.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about aging underground infrastructure in rapidly developing suburban townships throughout Selangor.
